Elgin High School Varsity Cheer Spotlight Presented by Hillary Communications

Elgin High School varsity cheer

The Elgin High School varsity cheer squad is building on a foundation of energy, discipline and growing experience under head coach Hollie Honea.

The group has earned a reputation on campus for being a dedicated and enthusiastic unit, and Honea said that spirit should only grow stronger with an influx of new talent next year. “The Elgin Cheer team is a dedicated and enthusiastic group, and we’re excited to welcome many talented young girls and guys next year,” Honea said. “Their passion for cheerleading truly inspires us every day.”

That enthusiasm shows up in long practices, community events and on the sidelines on game nights, where the Owls’ cheerleaders are tasked with setting the tone for the student section and engaging fans of all ages. With more athletes expected to join the program, Honea believes the team will have the depth and versatility to increase difficulty in its routines while maintaining the tight execution that has become a program standard.

Leading the way is team MVP Austyn Garrison, a multiple-time All American whose competitive drive sets the pace for the rest of the roster. “Austyn is an unwavering competitor, having achieved All American status on multiple occasions,” Honea said. “Her unwavering passion for the sport is evident, and we are delighted to have her as a member of our cheer team.” Garrison’s experience and consistency give Elgin a reliable presence when the pressure rises at performances and competitions.

Alongside Garrison, the future of Elgin cheer is in good hands with standout underclassman Aaliyah Rodriguez. Rodriguez has already made a name for herself with her work ethic and versatility on the mat. “Aaliyah is a remarkably talented young woman who is diligent and possesses a remarkable work ethic,” Honea said. She has already been honored as an All American this year, a sign of both her current skill and her potential to become one of the program’s next leaders.

Honea said Rodriguez’s approach to training and competition reflects the culture Elgin cheer is striving to build. “Her dedication and hard work have been evident in her achievements,” Honea said. “As a team player and a formidable competitor, Aaliyah has consistently demonstrated her abilities and has been recognized as an All American this year. Her unwavering determination and commitment to her goals inspire us, and we are immensely proud of her accomplishments and the remarkable growth she has undergone.”
