Elgin School senior Cayden Belletto has built his football experience around leadership, teamwork and humility. The 12th-grade quarterback said his family is his biggest inspiration, and he singled out math as his favorite subject and Mrs. McClung as one of his favorite teachers.
Belletto said one of the most memorable moments of his career was his first start, a milestone that gave him a lasting football memory. He also said one of the craziest things he has seen on a football field was a cat, a moment that added some unexpected humor to the game.
As the man running the offense, Belletto said the hardest part of playing quarterback is handling that responsibility. Even so, he said he enjoys the position because it allows him to lead his team and help set the tone for the offense.
Beyond the field, Belletto enjoys fishing in his free time. He said football has taught him to stay humble, a lesson he hopes will carry into the future. Before each game, he gets himself ready by walking the field and stretching, a routine that helps him focus before kickoff.
What Belletto appreciates most about his team is the strong brotherhood the players have developed. For him, that bond is one of the best parts of being a teammate and a leader.
