Elgin’s Jake Lohman – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Bank of Commerce

Elgin High School Senior, Jake Lohman, is ready to work alongside his teammates to put in the hard work that it takes to have a winning basketball season.

Jake says he was inspired to play basketball because of his Dad, “I wanted to play basketball just like him.” Because of this he started playing the game at a very young age.

When asked what he enjoys most about the game Jake shared a couple of reasons he has continued to play basketball. He enjoys hanging out with his friends and is motivated by his love of winning.

Being able to find success with friends by your side can lead to great memories. And over his high school career, Jake has had many opportunities to make memories with his teammates, and this season will undoubtedly be filled with more. But there are a couple of victories that stand out in his mind as most memorable. Jakes describes those as the victories over “Community Christian for the District Championship and when we beat Bethany to go to the Regional Championship last year.”

Sports can teach athletes many important lessons about life. For Jake, basketball has taught him that “hard work can take you anywhere.” Although not always fun or easy,  successful basketball players put a lot of time in the gym, in hopes that the hard work will pay off on game day. Jake credits his success in basketball to “staying persistent and working hard.”

Along with Jake’s dedication and winning mindset he is surrounded by a big support group of family and coaches who have been crucial  in motivating and encouraging him throughout his basketball years. This support group includes his “Mom, Dad, Brother, and Coaches Ryan Green and Derrick Thomas.”

Jake’s number one goal for this basketball season is to find success with his team.
